Vengeance 13 Black had another awesome weekend, but what made the weekend even more awesome was a number of the big sisters showed up with posters and goodies for the girls.  Some of them even helped work a match so the girls could start to warm-up.  It was a lot of fun seeing all the support from the Elite girls, and even some of the other coaches made a guest appearance too.  We ended up winning our tournament with a record of 10-0 sets, playing 13 Blue in the semi's and NOVA 14 Stars in the finals.  The girls executed well all day.  Again we utilized the wave method of rotating the girls in to play mixing up the setters and hitting positions each time and we are pleased with their ability to adjust and help each other.  The finals was an awesome display of hard work and concentration and not giving up.  We won the first game and trailed in the second game 11-17.  We called a time out and had them take a deep breath and remind them that it was OK to make a few mistakes, but not to worry that 25 was a long way off yet.  All we needed to do was be aggressive, not play it safe, play our game, play hard, celebrate hard, go for it ad mistakes will disappear.  The team really rallied, buckling down and getting after the ball, nothing drops and no fear, swing and kill.  We pulled back even and it was 2 point back and forth.  We even called an audible serve receive change to avoid using a time out.  In the end we won 25-23 and there was lots of jumping and hollering by all.  We are proud of our girls tenacity and ability to listen and execute even on the fly.  Most importantly their support for one another is key to keeping on when the road gets tough.  Many congrats to Vengeance!

Court Report written by Head Coach Kim Sears:

Vengeance 13 Black had a very successful weekend.  We came in second!!!!!!!! Had a wonderful day.  The girls really performed well and supported each other.  Every team we played was a 14's team.  We even got a couple of compliments from a ref and another parent/coach.  They thought our girls were a classy act when on and off the court and was an attentive work team that was on the ball. Literally ha-ha.  I divided the girls into 3 groups of 3 and rotated a new group of 3 in each set.  We had new setters every set and new players in different positions. We coaches were all very proud of how they handled all the changes, continued to work hard and help each other out,' we even came back from behind a couple of times.  We are very excited to watch the progress of these girls over the season.  Dave and Jo conversed with the girls that were on the sideline pointing things out and asking them questions to help then look at the big picture and get a better understanding of the game.  At this age we continue to strive in all aspects of game play.  Serving was awesome and Maxine had 22 serves in a row to finish a game.  The most exciting thing for us coaches was seeing the girls tracking the ball and following the play and moving to the ball.  Many times we had more than one girl hit the floor to get a ball up.  We had some spectacular saves, no fear. Most importantly they had fun through out the day and we all look forward to our next tourney.
