VA Elite's goal is to have an all-inclusive price tag. For the 15s through 18s teams, the club fees include everything (uniforms, tournament fees, travel, hotel, etc.) except for the players' meals while traveling. For the 12s through 14s, the club fees include everything except travel, hotel, and player meals. We have found in the past that parents of most of these younger players accompany the team on trips and prefer to save money by having the players stay in the parents rooms.
VA Elite encourages girls to play with their grade rather than with their age, as long as that is within USAV age restrictions. If a girl is in 9th grade and her birthday would allow her to play on the 15s team, we would want her to play on the 15s team rather than trying to 'play up' on the 16s team. We ocassionally make exceptions for girls whose skills are so advanced that playing with their grade level would actually hurt their skill development. If a player tries out for an older age group but does not make that team, we will consider her for a younger group.
Yes, VA Elite allows multiple-sport athletes. In fact, at the younger age groups we encourage girls to play multiple sports. As they reach the older age groups, the demands of three practices a week and the amount of travel that VA Elite teams do may make coordinating two sports in the same season a challange. However, we have had a number of girls play basketball or swim for their middle or high school during club season.
At VA Elite we believe that each player should get the maximum amount of training and playing time possible. We have found that, with 10 players on a team, each player will usually get to play in each match during pool play at tournaments. When you add more players, it becomes difficult to ensure adequate playing time for each girl.
The answer is simple - VA Elite provides the best coaches and the highest level of training available in the area. All of our coaches are required to be at least CAP I certified and must undergo internal club training as well. Our coaches are supervised by our technical director to ensure all use the same technical approach and training methods to provide consistent training across age groups.
VA Elite's focus is on individual skill development for each player rather than on winning games and matches. If each girl gets the best individual skill development, winning will follow.
No. VA Elite provides a unique club experience for players, but it's definitely not for everyone. Our program is for players who want to have fun and play volleyball, but who take the sport seriously and want to learn and compete at the highest level. Our practices are intense and fast-paced. Our travel schedule is demanding. Our season is longer than most other clubs in the area. If you or your player would prefer a less demanding training and travel experience, we can recommend a number of other clubs in the area which will provide a great volleyball experience.
