18s Finish 2nd at Capitol Hill Classic
February 17, 2020
On President’s Day Weekend 2020, Virginia Elite once again competed at Capitol Hill Classic. As one of the premier 3-day tournaments during that weekend, our teams were excited to compete in a large event locally against their peers and friends right in our own backyard. The competition was steep right from the beginning, but the 18s team fought for every point. The team finished up 3-0 on day 1 against CAVC 18 Elite, Revolution and DRVC. Coming into day 2 our 18s team faced tough opponents in VolleyFX 18-1 and CJV where we finished 2-0 against both teams. The final team of the day, a very talented Renas 18-1 put up a good fight but our 18s team outlasted the competition beating them in 3 and securing a place in the gold bracket for day 3! Elite started off strong winning their first match of day 3 in 2 against Elite Volleyball Training Center. Next up was Revolution, a familiar team they faced day 1. This time both teams pushed each other to a three-set thriller, where VA Elite came out victorious and moved to the gold bracket final! The team prepared to face crosstown rival, Metro 18 Travel in the final and they were pumped from the start. Both teams fought hard with Metro besting Elite 25-20 in the first set. Elite answered right back with a 25-21 win of set 2 pushing the match to 3. The final set was a nail biter but ultimately Metro won 15-11 to take 1 st place and Elite finished 2nd. While on the way to their 2 nd place finish, Olivia Franke (MB) was named as the divisions Best Blocker while Chloe Hum took home Best Receiver.
