18s Finish 5th Overall at MAPL Raleigh

March 1, 2020

The Virginia Elite 18s team played their 3rd of 4 weekends in a row after strong performances at Cap Hill and Beast of the SouthEast Qualifier.  MAPL Raleigh is known to be one of the strongest fields of the MAPL series, and this year it was no different.  Pool 1 saw our 18s face off against Carolina Juniors 17 and Carolina Rogue 18 with Elite splitting the matches and coming out 2nd on their net behind Carolina Rogue 18.  The afternoon pool was just as tough as our 18s faced off against NC Academy 18 Diamond and Upward Stars 17s seeing our team struggle to execute and falling just short of victorious dropping to 3rd place in pool 2.

Day 2 started with a chance at redemption in the gold challenge bracket against PSVC 18 and Triangle 17 Black.  The 18s team began with a decisive 2 set win against PSVC and then went extra points in their 2 set victory over Triangle to earn their shot at gold and an opportunity for a re-match against Academy 18 Diamond!

While the 18s team fared better in their rematch with Academy taking them to extra points, they ultimately fell short of victorious in a 3 set defeat but solidified a strong 5th place overall finish!  The 18s play their 4th straight tournament as they battle for an open bid at NEQ next weekend!
