Jessica Martz
13's Head Coach
Jess coached the previous two club seasons at MoCo VBC in Maryland and will serve as the 13's head coach for Virginia Elite.
Originally from Oakland, California, Martz brings a combined 18 years of competitive volleyball experience to the club, extending from her time competing at Junior Olympics as a grass and as an indoor player and earning player of the year, all-league (4x) and hall of fame accolades at Moreau Catholic High School to an accomplished collegiate career at Division I U.S. Naval Academy. Her favorite memories as a junior player: playing for her Dad in high school, winning grass 14U junior olympics in 1994, placing 10th at 18U junior olympics in 1997, coming in second at 18U Junior Far Westerns in 1999, and being molded by two of her heroes - Misty May (3-time Olympian and former NCAA-standout) and Cary Wendell (NCAA-standout and former national team setter) at setter's camps in the 1990s. She was also recruited by top-25 teams across the U.S.
While at Navy, she was the starting setter and team captain and also twillighted during periods of teammate injuries as an outside hitter and libero. She was all-conference and once held top records within the Patriot League, received numerous team and school accolades during her tenure and still ranks high in Navy's record books in assists, service aces, sets and matches played, hitting percentage, and double-doubles. Martz remained active as a player after college, competing for the All-Marine Corps volleyball team, at USA volleyball nationals, and playing in various adult leagues across the country, including this past summer at the AA level.
Since retiring in 2023 from the U.S. Marines Corps, she works as an attorney with the Defense Health Agency and resides with her family in Montgomery County, MD.
